If you think your wood coffee table which has borne lots of abuse and misuse is hopeless think again. There is hope for you yet because in this article is valuable information that will help you breathe new life to that used wood coffee table in your living room to make it look brand spanking new your friends will surely ask if you've bought a new one.

Many homeowners are of the notion that they always need new furniture when they want to breathe new life to their living room. Many are of the notion that re-staining wood table is the only way to go, there are other ways that are also fun and will make your table be as fresh and interesting or even more interesting than it were when you first bought it in.

First and foremost, if your table has damages, assess the kind of damage it has borne. If there are nicks, water stains, and other minor abuse it means that you need to do something to that table. Here are fun ways other than re-staining, your wood coffee table.

Decoupage is our first alternative. In this method you are going to need lots of wonderful cutouts of your choice from glossy magazine pages. You can choose to create a story with these cutouts or you can design geometric patterns and after gluing this on the top of the table, you should put 2 or 3 layers of varnish or lacquer for an even and shiny finish.

A person I know made a cutout of one huge sun then glued it on the center of his old round table. For added beauty, he glued several small square pieces of cutout tiles and arranged them around the sun. The result was a table that looked Aztec.

Our next alternative which is photographic inlay is a great way to display old family pictures. Get those candid family snapshots from that storage box, have them reprinted, the happier the better and it would be a great idea too if the pictures show the growth of the family.

Arrange those any way you like on top of the table and when you're already satisfied, glue those on top. To protect the pictures, you can finish by laminating the table top.

You can also use ceramic or stone tiles to beautify that table. Whether you have left over tiles left from last times' redecorating or you buy a new one, be sure that the tiles you're going to use complement the wood and the rest of your living room's furnishings.

You can choose to cover the whole table top or you can just tile some portions. A recommendable tile is slate because the variations of it's natural gray color makes an old boring table come to life.

You can repaint your wood coffee table with the same color or some other color that is more refreshing than the original. For instance if you are redecorating your home, you can still keep that coffee table but change the color into something more complementary to your new design theme. Changing hues gives your table a new appearance to keep it up with the modern times.

Now before you do all these stuff, be sure that you know what you're doing especially when it comes to handling tools and chemicals. Safety should be the first and foremost concern, so if you don't know how and you insist on doing it yourself do lots of research first otherwise get someone else to do it for you.

Lastly, prepare your table first before you do any of those ideas mentioned by cleaning, or sanding the wood to remove stains. There you go, have a great time with your brand-new wood coffee table.
